Hello,

I need to replace my current laptop for my sysadmin job and occasionally stream on a portable setup. Is it enough to buy a laptop without dedicated NVIDIA/AMD GPU to stream and record 1080p/60fps? I expect to use 3-4 cams using video capture interface and/or incoming browser frame from IP webcam.

My budget is very restricted, so I'm not sure if I should purchase older CPU + dedicated GPU (such as 4th gen core i5 + NVIDIA GT920m) or recent CPU without dedicated GPU (such as 6th gen core i5) and rely on IGP.

I wish occasionally run also music production stuffs (Cubase, Ableton Live) and video editing (Premiere Pro) on the laptop, when I need to leave my desktop PC.

So, in your opinion, would I buy older CPU + dedicated GPU or recent CPU without dedicated GPU? Thanks in advance.

What codecs? What programs? The igpu encoder can handle 1080p60 fine for stuff like h.264.

I wouldn't bother with a 920m or simmilar, just get a laptop with no dgpu at that point.

What are you doing with 3-4 webcams? Different streams or combining them?

The capture devices parts are not mine, they are mostly pre-installed by another team with their own materials, I don't have control over it, but their usually provide these cheap H264 video capture interface and sometimes MJPEG IP webcam (exactly same protocol as this android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pas.webcam&hl=en_US&gl=US).

Going to broadcast it with OBS Studio to Facebook or Restream.io at 1080p60 x264.

If you need to do all that + play the game on the same device, you'll need a strong graphics card. I'm thinking RTX 3060 at least.

Forgot to mention, I'm not going to stream video games but on-stage show. Just cameras + screen capture coming from another PC + sound coming from digital mixing console.

Id really try to get something faster than a 4th/6tb gen system here, but it should probably be fine.

Whats your budget for the laptop? Id get a laptop with a quadcore at least, try to get the higher power h series chips instead of the ultra low power u series chips.

If your using x264 your gpu won't really matter at all as thats a cpu encoder, and doesn't use gpu power. OBS doesn't need much gpu power to do the image prep.

Don't expect much from Intel IGPU, Is just for Output, But it doesn't mean it won't work. I'm using i5 3470 (DIY PC) with IGPU enable because my GPU (RX 560 2GB GDDR5) just Decided to die last week, And for browsing the internet I haven't have any problem, But other than that I won't bother. Especially with Old intel CPU. It will differ if say you want to play a game on newer intel UHD, Such as Intel 10 or 11 Gen CPU.
