Just got this RX 580 from a friend who said it didn't have problems for it. It completely dies while under any significant load, and crashes. Freezes the screen for several seconds, GPU fans turn off, then screen goes black. Only way to fix it is to hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE until it brings up the windows menu. Then, everything using the GPU loses its ability to display video. Have to restart any programs using it. Any Ideas? I just got this within a week.

Check temps

If temps are ok then prob just degraded gpu

Download and install msi afterburner (if you dont have it already) increase the power limits as far as it will go, lower memory freq to the lowest it will go and save

Then run a stress test like furmark and see if it "dies", if it dies even when you lowered the memory then prob gpu

(After memory) if it dies even when you lower gpu aswell then theres gotta be another problem

Reseat the graphics card, check the pcie power cables, dissasemble the card clean and replace the thermal paste and reasemble, going into msi afterburner and increasing all the voltages in the gpu power curve by 100mv

If that doesnt work then grab some aluminum foil, put some thermal paste on the gpu and vram (memory) and make sure to fully cover the gpu and vram with thermal paste, then grab your clothing iron set it to highest heat level and put it on the foil for around 10 minutes, if this doesnt revive the card then you can prob just use if for things like folding@home or mining cause its faulty

I've opened afterburner, tried doing the things you've asked, but whenever I try to apply the changes it just goes back to where it was. I don't know if they saved or not. I can do some of these things in Adrenaline though because I do have the 6/21/21 driver.

I've reseated and checked cables already. IF I were to take apart the GPU what kind of thermal paste would I need?

EDIT: I ran furmark with the changes in fan curve, memory clock, and power delivery (via Adrenaline) and the hottest it got after 5 mins was 89 C.

I opened a CSGO workshop map and it crashed instantly.
