Hey folks.

I'm looking for some suggestions for a messaging app that will work without an internet connection and on Android devices of various revisions.

Due to various health problems in the family, I'm paraplegic and my mother is unable to talk. We need something that would work device to device without a Wi-fi connection as the mobile dongle I'm stuck with just now can be unreliable.

Something along the lines of 'Signal Offline' etc It needs to be reasonably user friendly as my mum isn't tech savvy.

This is my first day of searching so any suggestions would be great.

Cheers

You need a way for devices to connect to one and another.

Only other option within you guidelines is SMS.

edit: and yes for SMSing there are also several apps available.
But first lets focus on your wants and needs. 😉

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Here's how a offline messaging app works. https://bridgefy.me/what-are-mesh-networks-and-how-do-they-work/#:~:text=Bridgefy uses Bluetooth antennas by,connect Android and iOS devices.&text=The phones are within each, can connect with no problem.  Bridgefy is an offline messaging app. Look at it and you'll get an idea on how to create one yourself (if you know to code).

If my answer is correct or is helpful please mark it as the solution. Quote me in your post to summon me. Beware that after summoning me ill never leave.

Thanks for the quick replies folks, appreciate it.

I should have been a bit more detailed when composing my post.

@HanZie82 SMS would be fine but my mum's tablet doesn't have an associated phone number. Sorry I should have mentioned this.

After a look around this morning, Bridgefy, Briar and Signal Offline Messanger seem to fit the bill.

It's mainly for Comms within the house.

I'll give them a try and see which is the easiest for her to use.

Again, cheers for the responses it's greatly appreciated.

  • 2 weeks later...

Quick update.

We're currently using Briar which seems to be working great for what we need.

Easy setup, simple UI for her to use.

Now she just needs to get used to typing on a touch screen, but that will come.

Cheers for the advice folks, it is really appreciated.
