usb 3 mobo raid controller

Hello,

So I have mini home server:

Asrock b450 fatal1ty mini itx mobo
Ryzen 1200 12nm

16gb ddr4 hyperx 3200 ram.
512gb nvme as boot drive and main system storage(cache for files, etc)
6gb raid array connected on 3x sata ports on mobo (1 still unused).
on pciex16 a gpu for on demand virtualisation of other OS
Running on ubuntu server 20.04LTS

So all pcie and sata ports are occupied.

The thing is that I would like to know:
Are these kinds of things https://www.datoptic.com/ec/usb3-and-esata-to-5-sata-drive-hardware-raid-jbod-controller.html
Are reliable solution for sata raid expansions?
Or should I consider to switch to apu instead of cpu when they will be available(current shortage) and then buying pcie raid controller?

Id normally not trust usb storage too much, but it should work ok.

DOes the vm need gpu? You can run vms without a gpu and use a virtual gpu.

What hdd do you have? Might be cheaper and better to get bigger hdds.
