So I have a dilemma between two pre built systems so I will list the main parts here.

first build:

asus prime x570-p

ryzen 5600x

rtx 3070(model does vary but it is promised to be a top brand)

16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz (2x8GB)
240gb m2 with a 1tb hard drive

Corsair 650W CV650

second build:

ASUS PRIME Z490-V

Intel 10700k

rtx 3080(same as above in terms of model)

16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200MHz (1x16GB)

500gb m2 with a 2tb hard drive

Corsair 750W TX750M

i have also just bought myself an odyssey g7 32inch to go with whichever build I get.

So I have gripes about both builds but my pc is about to die any day now(q6600 with a 1060 6gb) so both builds will be a huge upgrade.

With the first build I hate the fact it’s got a very average bronze rated psu, I would most likely buy myself an Corsair rmx750 but the idea of having to re do all their nice cable management is rather annoying.

With the second build I hate the fact it’s gone with a single channel 16gb, I am more than happy with 16gb of ram but would rather it be 2x8gb. I also really wanted to go with the new ryzen cpus but from the videos I have watched the 10700k seems to be pretty decent in comparison to a 5600x

The difference in cost between the two builds is just under £350($486) I would most likely add another 16gb stick to the second build which is slightly more than upgrading the psu in the first build.

All things considered I feel the second build is slightly better value for my money(and time in terms of the effort to add another memory stick compared to changing the psu) but I would love to hear other people’s thoughts?

I will literally be using the pc to game on and that is it. No streaming/rendering will be done on it.

thanks in advance for any help given

You can get the intel one and get another stick of 16gb later, since the ram was not some sort of weird oem green pcb stuff...

The cpu is damn near hell at this point, but damn does the gpu still solid even though it is 2021

Thanks for all your advice! I was siding with the second build already but you guys have cemented the decision.

So if I buy an 8gb stick exactly the same model as the 16gb stick it will run like a dual channel system? I’m not thinking about this in terms of saving pennies I can afford a 16gb stick to go with it but it just feels like a massive overkill and waste of money for what I will be using it for. An extra 8gb will be more than enough if I still get the same dual channel qualities from it

Who are the manufacturers of the builds, because that actually matters. Gamers Nexus has been doing prebuilt reviews lately, and they've found some very stupid practices that can actually swing a machine with obstensively better specs into performance worse than a build with lesser specs. For example, one prebuilt had a CPU cooler so bad that it actually thermal throttled out of the box. Dell had a custom graphics card that was designed so poorly that it couldn't even compete with lesser GPUs and Steve called it the worst graphics card ever.

The 1x16GB config screams an OEM like Dell, because they're mostly the ones that do stupid crap like that (single channel memory on a build with an 8 core CPU and a freaking 3080... Ridiculous).

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D · Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S Chromax.black · Motherboard: Gigabyte Auros X670 Elite AX · RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 · Graphics Card: Zotac NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super Twin Edge OC 12GB · Boot Drive: 1TB XPG Gammix S70 Blade NVMe SSD · Game Drive: 2TB WD SN850X NVMe SSD · PSU: Seasonic Focus GX V3 1000W 80+ Gold · Case: Fractal Design North Mesh · Monitor: MSI Optix MAG342CQR 34” UWQHD 3440x1440 144Hz · Keyboard: EPOMAKER x Aula F99 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard · Mouse: Logitech G309 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse

Actually it is a uk company called alpha sync(a branch off from ebuyer) and their reviews on trusted pilot are really good. Both builds are using a entry level 120mm aio cooler, nothing special. My plan was to monitor the temps once I receive the build and if I have any issues I was just going to replace the aio with either a dark rock pro 4 or a better aio. Thank you for your concern.

my guess is that they are trying to get rid of parts that aren’t selling particularly well such as the 16gb Corsair ram while tempting buyers in like myself with the chance at getting a 3080. Pretty much all of the parts are all above average in terms of quality except for the aio and the storage devices are average at best

I always monitor the temps of my components and hwmonitor will be one of the first things I download along with heaven benchmark and test the rig on day 1
