There are lots of projects on BOINC, or there is Folding at Home. F@H is mainly for diseases and cancer reasearch and the BOINC stuff seems to be generally more physics, enviromental and maths based.

Well, not for space research, i personally would say for medical reasons are a better use for your resources so least its going to a good cause.

Space research is probably more deserving of a donation. Cancer, and other medical research gets billions in donations per year. When was the last time you heard somebody donating to a space or physics research project?

 

Also, the technologies invented during space research often leads to new and innovative products for consumers.

I can't name any space research projects that you could volunteer your PC processing power too though. Well besides SETI.... do you know of any?
