Can you lovely users recommend a surround sound audio setup I can install around my room? This will mainly be used for music and movies. I'd like it to have a good price:quality ratioseeing as how my budget is approx. 300 USD

If you can add an additional $50 to your budget I would recommend these:

You're just gonna get gimmicky surround sound instead of nice audio reproduction with that budget, and everything in the price range will be the same.

$300? Don't even bother with a surround sound system. I would use some really nice headphones for that price. It's not like you're going to be making a home theater out of that cash.

Assuming you're okay with wired headphones, pairs I can recommend are:

  • Philips Fidelio X1
  • Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro *
  • AKG K702 *
  • Grado SR325i
  • HiFiMAN HE-400 *
  • Audio-Technica AD900x

* = Will need an amp for to improve performance (except DT 880 32 ohm).

As for speaker systems in your price, that depends. Are you using them for PC gaming?

You can get consumer class brands surround speaker system for $300, namely from LG, Phillips, etc. Just search in Amazon (i.e. LG surround sound system). Good enough for movies, for that booms and explosions from all around you, but far from 'quality audio' like audiophile musics though....

I see where you're coming from, but audiophile grade equipment is not really something that makes or breaks a product for me. I may have misused the term "surround" so in clarification, what is a good desktop audio set for music, not necesarrily a home theater :P

If you neeeed a subwoofer, Klipsh ProMedia 2.1. If not, audioengine A2+.
