Hello, I am 15 and I currently live in Australia. I am really into computers and I want to make a future career out of it. I am currently studying engineering and Industrial technology and design. It is not related to computers at all, except for 3D modelling. What choices should I make in life? Should I go to University (my parents want me to)? And I feel like without the uni you can't have a decent career. What courses should I choose? I want to be sort of a technician, but I also want to work into the development field.
Thanks

Go to college if you can.  Also, don't stress too much about not being able to get certain jobs with a certain degree.  If you have a degree that is even remotely related to the line of work you want, you're already one step ahead of the guys without a degree at all.

I have planned to take: Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with an Emphasis in Technology Innovation, OR Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with an Emphasis in Game and Simulation Development

I would say go to university and get your degree, at least 4 years if that's how it is in aussie, the jobs for Computer's are expanding faster than any other job, and this generation is the next for product innovation and things like that

Here in Australia, you can choose 2 secondary subjects, not matter how hard they are. I chose Engineering and Industrial Technology.

IT work in Melbourne is scarce right now, with two exceptions:

You can program in a variety of languages (usually short term work)

You have a business and IT degree.

Currently I've taken 6 months off uni, I'm doing an IT degree. However, Engineering is becoming a pathway that's becoming more and more appealing.

There are a few programs with IT-Business that go for 4 years, and likewise in Engineering.

You could also consider a Traineeship, which pays and gets you a piece of paper (Usually a Cert 4, Diploma, Associates degree), and after that, you're usually granted into the second year of a degree in the specific field.

I am currently working in a computer store on weekends and at the end of the 4th term I am getting a Certificate 3 in IT. That should help me getting a better part time job in the future.
