Java 16

I just  downloaded a Java 16 This one here in the photo. I'm doing this for a MCServer once everything is ready for 1.17 (spigot, paper, client and plugin mods)

2 questions:

Is the right way to do it or any easier way to just install and be done like the older java 8 versions?

Can I uninstall 8 and still run my 1.16.5 MCServer on java 16?

To run software, you typically only need the Java Runtime (JRE), not the development kit (JDK). I don't know the requirements for MCServers, you'd have to check their documentation whether their software is compatible with Java 16 or whether it needs 8 or something else. These days I'd use OpenJDK (e.g. AdoptOpenJDK) rather than the Oracle JDK.

(~edit: While it's called OpenJDK, but there's both a JDK and JRE version of it, so OpenJDK-JDK and OpenJDK-JRE)

All I just know is I need 16 so I'll try that one. Thanks for the information still helpful.

If you know it needs Java 16, then you can safely remove Java 8, provided you have no other software/games that still require Java 8.
