Hey, I just build my first pc and everything seems to running fine but it is slow playing simple games.  I was playing Banished and it is not smooth at all.

I have a GTX 770 GPU and an itel i7-4770 with 16 gb of ram.  This seem like it should be way more than enough to handle a game like banished.  Also I have all the drivers updated.  WTF am I doing wrong

Don't forget to read the CoC here!

Now for your problem, is it fps being low or is it vertical tearing?

EDIT: Check the GPU, CPU, and RAM usage, while playing.

Haha the title is amazing. Also that is wierd you should push over 60 fps in that game with ease. Maybe your hdd can't keep up. I can't play Skyrim (heavily modded)  on an hdd because it's to slow. Also welcome to the forum enjoy your stay.

Use MSI Afterburner's in-game overlay to see your GPU usage while you play, or use the benchmark tool in FRAPS, since I think it can do stuff like that as well, but in a chart.

This might sound dumb but do you have your monitor lead plugged into your motherboard. if you do its running off the onboard gpu hence the low dedicated memory.  If i am correct plug it into the GPU and it should then show up as the correct memory.

I almost felt dumb but it is plugged into the correct spot.

I went and updated the driver and the game runs fine now, but when it still says I only have 256 MB dedicated video ram.  The website might just suck because the game runs fine.  I'll download one of the tools listed above and see if that tells me anything.  Thanks for you help guys you were awesome!
