Is 5400rpm enough for games(WD20EZRZ)?

Because I can buy 2tb 5400rpm cmr for 50 and 2tb 7200rpm smr for 50. Is 5400rpm enough?

The only thing it's going to affect is load times. In that regard, 5400 or 7200 hardly matters. It's still going to be slow. However, all you have to do is wait. Generations have done it on the consoles, and many PC gamers still use spinning rust, as well.

But some people say that a 5400rpm hdd causes stutter in open world games. (Sorry for bad English)

Perhaps, it depends on how the game is programmed. If it's trying to stream in assets, then yeah, there will be stutters. However, again, the solution to that is an SSD. An HDD, 5400 or 7200RPM is still too slow.

5400 RPM drives are relatively slow and not worth it in my opinion. Even 7200PRM drives are "slow" now compared to SSDs. Depending on your budget, if you can afford one, better to get an SSD.

i still game off of hard drivers, i have a 7200rpm drive and ive got no problems

I'd probably end up going for the 5400RPM drive if you have absolutely no wiggle room on that budget. Seems like in my experience, 5400RPM 3.5" drives really aren't that much worse than their 7200RPM counterparts. I've also tried using an SMR drive for games and I gotta say it kinda fuggin sucked.

 

Ultimately the WD20EZRZ isn't all that different than a 1TB Barracuda, which IMO is more or less the gold standard for cheap drive performance. Obviously it takes it up the ass for sequential performance, but randoms are functionally the same.
