Suggestion Request: Good SSDs for Mac A1278 ??

Hello all.

 

My mom had a mac (or is it mac book?) whose HDD failed. I am not experience with Macs but I am hoping replacing the broken HDD with an SSD will be close enough to the times I've done so for windows laptops. I know parts compatibility is a thing for macs, so I am unsure if there is an SSD available or if I have to use a specific HDD only.

 

Is a 120GB SSD big enough or will I have to go to 250GB or higher? Trying to keep the cost to get this laptop up and running as low as possible. 

 

Bottom of the mac says A1278.
