so this is my first build, and i was hoping for some input to weather or not the 2011 socet is worth the money?
i could go to the i7 4770k and save money on my mobo but from what i read the 4820k is better for 3d modeling and rendering.
im greatful for any help on this situation

1. You did not use a motherboard that is listed on pcpartpicker.com so it did not add the price. 2. What is your budget? 3. What are you going to using the pc for? 4. No it's not worth it. 5. Welcome to the forums enjoy your stay 6.Total overkill on the ram. 16 should be enough and evewn if you need 32 you can get much cheaper ram.

Totally depends on what you're using the system for--are you working in the field? Just learning? Fooling around?

Programs being used? Type of renderers and settings? Average poly count?

How much money do you have to blow?

The 3D and programming work you'll do as an engineering student will easily run on a modern celeron. Don't waste your money.

I doubt you'd need any more than the standard 8GB ram..

im sorry im unaware of what celeron is.

It's one of the low end lineups of inte's cpus.

For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116974

and for perspective: i7 > i5 > i3 > Pentium > Celeron

I'm not suggesting to buy one. I'm just bringing into perspective how a 4770k or going 2011 would be overkill.

As for what I would recommend, it would depend on your budget and whatnot. read the link in my sig: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/
