Need help regarding installing a second RAM stick on my laptop

I have an Asus ROG Zephyrus M GU502GU which came preinstalled with 16GB of DDR4 2666MHz Single RAM stick. I have been using my laptop to play games on it and I'm getting bad frame rates due to the single-channel RAM and so I'm looking forward to installing another stick of RAM on this device. I used Crucial's system scanner to list compatible memory for my laptop and the list had 16GB sticks as well as 8GB DDR4 2666MHz sticks. Now I know that you need the same stick capacity and frequency to get dual-channel mode but I've also heard of something called Intel Flex mode which comes into play when the RAMs are of different capacity so I was wondering if installing that 8GB stick on my laptop would give me more performance than my current 16GB RAM running on single-channel model is giving.
