Found a 980 ti without a cooler for a reasonable price but i don't know where to get a aftermarket cooler for a 980 ti. if anyone knows i would appreciate it.

Arctic cooling is the only maker I know of that still sells after market gpu coolers.  Checking eBay might work.  The odd bit is for every 980ti with no cooler there’s a 980ti cooler with no 980ti.  One wonders what happened to it.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Fit and work are different things.

hmm well both then. i would assume it would fit but i guess the question of it it would sufficiently cool it is a different question entirely.

It may fit but probably won’t work even if it does. A 950 ran at a much lower TDP and had less memory.  Also I don’t know if you have a custom or reference board.  The specific manufacturer and model may matter. Different manufacturers put different bits in different places on custom boards so they may not match at all.  It’s a bit better with reference stuff.  With a custom board it’s possible not even a more generic configurable cooler like Arctic’s would fit.  The most common reason to pull an air cooler is to put it under water and clock the snot out of it.  I suggest contacting the seller and finding out the history of the thing.

it WAS a gigabyte one but oh well someone beat me to it and bought it. i guess ill find a gpu elsewhere if i can. i only have a $230 usd gpu budget on my build and I'm targeting 1080p 144hz gaming. ive already been hard-pressed to find a gpu and i don't surmise that will end any time soon.
