I was looking to see if it was possible to sli with two different gpus, but everywhere i go says it isn't possible. I did, however, come across a thread where someone mentioned running one card as my primary graphics processor and the other as a dedicated physx card. How would i go about doing this and how would it affect performance?

Also, would there be benefits from running two cards in one rig that are not sli configured?

You will be able to set it up in the drivers. Also, performance is dependent on the main card and the PhysX card.

You can use a card as dedicated physx card but it barely does anything nowadays.

And running two cards without sli you wouldn't have any benefits in gaming, you could like fold or smth.

Ok so a gts 250 as main with an 8800gt as physx, how well do you think that would perform? Ill be playing old games and if im playing newer games theyll be at low res.

Not worth it.

Don't do it it's a waste of time and PCIE lanes IMO.

If he's using a GT250 I dont think hes going to be using the PCI-E lanes much :P

It's not worth it. You can see Linus's experiment here.

How is it not worth it?  There is a 15% performance increase.  The video is also very old, so we can't take it at face value.  Would be interesting if a new test was conducted.  Metro:Last Light would benefit from having a dedicated Phys X card.  My EVGA GTX 780 only gets 45fps at the highest possible settings. Crysis3 would probably benefit tremendously as well.  Those are two of the most demanding games on the market.
