Good Afternoon,

I am in the process of building a gaming PC and I am having issues deciding on the final parts for my gaming rig. I am trying to keep the budget close to $1500 as possible. My goal is to have that ultra gaming experience. One of the issues I am going back and forth on is my ability to keep the PC cool as multiple people will be playing on this 12+ hours a day. I am worried that I am going either too low or too high on certain items, so I built the rig around the AMD Ryzen 7 5800x. This is my first swipe at this. Please, see the attachment and let me know what you guys think and thank you for any suggestions!

Notes: SSD 250GB for the OS with the games being stored onto a 4TB HDD. I also, already acquired a Ryzen 7

Budget (including currency): $1,500

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Ultra settings Gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Torn between water cooling or Fan

Not bad overall. Just bear in mind that you have a lot of cost tied up in RGB jazz. While it looks cool, it doesn't buy you any extra performance, so it would be better to pour every red cent into the components, themselves. You can always add on RGB later.

The one thing I'd definitely change is the CPU cooler. The Hyper 212 is decent for a budget cooler, but it's not going to keep up with a 5800X. This is an area where you should splurge, and get a really good air cooler or AIO, especially since you can roll the thermal headroom into even higher boost and performance out of the 5800X.

Likewise, the case isn't great. It's not horrible or as bad as something like an NZXT H510, but it's not great in the thermal department. Again, lower thermals mean a higher performance ceiling, so you shouldn't skimp on the case either.

After that, I'd up the RAM to at least 3600MHz CL16. It's not a huge difference, but you're just leaving performance on the table for no reason.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D · Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S Chromax.black · Motherboard: Gigabyte Auros X670 Elite AX · RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 · Graphics Card: Zotac NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super Twin Edge OC 12GB · Boot Drive: 1TB XPG Gammix S70 Blade NVMe SSD · Game Drive: 2TB WD SN850X NVMe SSD · PSU: Seasonic Focus GX V3 1000W 80+ Gold · Case: Fractal Design North Mesh · Monitor: MSI Optix MAG342CQR 34” UWQHD 3440x1440 144Hz · Keyboard: EPOMAKER x Aula F99 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard · Mouse: Logitech G309 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse

Hi!

Any tips on what I should look for in a case? I actually chose this one on a whim.

I agree with what was said above. Getting an SSD and a HDD is a good idea, but I think I would go with a bigger SSD to also install the games you play the most. 250GB is enough for your OS + some software, but I'd recommend 500GB.

If you have non stop load, water cooling is meant to absorb heat better over long periods of time. I've heard good things about the Arctic freezer II lineup (240, 280 and 360). But at the end of the day, the difference between air and liquid cooling isn't that important, especially if you aren't cooling a threadripper...

Gamers nexus on YouTube do a lot of extensive case reviews. If you want to look at them great, if you want to take my word for it here are some cases at the top of my head that they recommend:

On the cheaper end

Lian Li Lancool II Mesh

Phanteks P360

On the more expensive side

Corsair 5000D

Lian Li O11

Phanteks P500a

I personally like Fractal Design too. They're not great on airflow generally, except for the Meshify lineup and I think they also got nice reviews for the Meshify 2.

Mostly you want something with a mesh front panel. That's not the only thing that matters for cooling, and mesh doesn't always mean it's good, but in general, that's going to be the first sign of a case that's actually designed for airflow.

For cases about the same size as the O11, I'd look at a Meshify 2 Compact or a Corsair 4000D Airflow. If you don't mind going bigger, the Be Quiet Silent Base 802 is also excellent.

Hey,

Spent most of last night and today researching and changing my list. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Note: Was looking at getting 3 of the 140mm fans.
