High temps diagnosing

Trinopoty

My PC has unusually high temps reported by OpenHardwareMonitor.

CPU (5800X) used to idle at 75C. I reapplied my thermal compound and reinstalled the cooler and now it's at around 65C. Which is an improvement but not much I think.

I have about 5 intake and 5 exhaust fans on the case. 5 of them run at 1800RPM and 5 at 1200RPM. The CPU cooler is Cooler Master Hyper 212 with both fans installed in push pull config. Room's ambient temp is on the higher side.

Any advise on bringing down these temps?

chances are its not reading correctly. Download hwinfo64 or Ryzen Master and confirm. These are known to work and show correctly with AMD Ryzen CPUs.

Both HwInfo and Ryzen Master seem to agree with OpenHardwareMonitor on the temps.

For the record, I'm running my CPU at stock config. No OC as far as I'm aware.

You did remove the plastic from the base of the heatsink before installing it correct?

Yes. There's no plastic on the bottom of the cooler heatsink. Just aluminum and copper. I'm twice as sure because I cleaned the old thermal compound with alcohol when reinstalling it.

Mounting pressure problem maybe?

Don't know how to test that. I tightened the cooler mount screws properly. Till it stopped turning.

Go into HWinfo64 and look at your Core VIDs or VCOREs. What are they like??

What Windows Power Plan are you using?? Update all your drivers and chipset drivers?? BIOS updated to the latest non-Beta BIOS?

Also, a Cooler Master Hyper 212 is gonna barely cut it for this high end of a processor at 8C/16T. Keep in mind that Zen 3 CPUs tend to run hot and idle at high voltages, creating excess heat.

I use the "High Performance" plan. I'll check for update to my drivers and BIOS and get back.

Do we have a CPU cooler tier list or something like that? Wondering if I should go with a 360mm AIO. Maybe a NZXT Kraken?

Actually, yes there is (I'll probably add it in my Signature for those interested in a quick link). You could do that, as long as it performs very well. Have you looked at reviewer's videos of the cooler and see if it's worth purchasing?

I knew of the PSU tier list only. Good to know we have a cooler tier list as well.

I need to do more research on AIOs but NZXT Kraken is the one most readily available when I searched both online and offline.

After updating the BIOS, the Core VID is hovering around 1.0V (down from 1.4V before the update) and temps are hovering around 45C to 55C.

That's much better than what they were before. A beefier CPU cooler is something I'd recommend. Personally, I like air coolers so the top of the line you have is a Noctua NH-D15 or a be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4. Just check to make sure they are compatible with your case as they are tall coolers. Likewise, check to make sure the AIOs fit.

I have a Define 7 XL so space wouldn't be an issue. I'll upgrade the cooler as soon as stock becomes available.

Sounds good. Keep us posted on how everything turns out!

I upgraded to a NZXT Kraken X73 360mm. The temps haven't improved much. Staying around 40C at idle. Then again, my ambient temp is on the higher side.

I'll try fiddling around to see if maybe there's any airflow obstruction that can be fixed.

Also installed a 3080 Ti at the same time so that could be contributing to the higher overall temps.
