So I'm trying to fix a laptop that shuts off at the Windows logo (the one that usually comes after the BIOS info).

1. It seems to be losing power as the power indicator, etc. turn off for a split second after the above occurs. It also makes a noise somewhat similar to when there is a power outage and the electronics get abruptly shut off, or when you turn off a CRT TV.

2. The SSD works on another computer.

3. The same problem occurs even when the battery is removed.

4. Using another SSD in place of the original one results in an Ethernet controller error, which also occurs when no drive is plugged in.

5. The BIOS info (where it prompts you to press F2 or whatnot) does not appear. Instead, the Windows logo that normally shows up after that actually appears before anything else.

Thanks for the help.

Try booting into safe mode, maybe windows is glitching something out at the boot-up to cause it to cold-shutdown the system. You can do this by doing these steps:

1.Make sure your system is completely shutdown

2.Start pressing the F8 button repeatedly (not too fast as to cause the system not to identify the button)

3.While doing 2, press the power button and wait a few seconds until you see a black and white menu.

4.If such does appear use the arrow keys to scroll down to a selection that says "Safe mode with networking"

5. From there the system will attempt to boot in, if the system does the same thing try using the "Safe mode only" selection as I did see you mention the Ethernet controller error issue.

On an added note do you by any chance know the make and model of your laptop, that would be REALLY helpful :)

So I looked up the error code, and it says Kernel-Power 41 (63). From what I've read so far, disabling redundant audio drivers has solved the issue for them, but not for me.

Edit: @178Sonic I tried doing that with F2, F8 and DEL and it doesn't change anything unfortunately. I'm not sure what the model number is at the moment, the sticker seems to be missing. Also of note, when I press those keys upon startup it seems to shut off even more quickly, though it might just be nothing.

Hmm, and assuming that, you probably don't have the box either so yea, you're stuck in a bit of a rut. What kind of error code do you get when you switched the ssd if I may ask?

If you can reinstall windows, that will help.

There isn't an error code, however it shows a message reading "For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller: Check Cable Connection - No bootable device".

I have a feeling that the power supply is the cause of the problem. The battery doesn't seem to have any charge right now even though it's only a few months old (as the laptop needs to be plugged in to do any troubleshooting with it), and only a few days ago when it was working, it would last ~5+ hours on battery power.

Hmm, I'm thinking that the laptop has become defective (or in your case the charger is faulty), but the best way to find out is though the model number of the laptop to start researching and seeing others views. Sorry for not being able to help dude   :(
