Hey guys, Taco here asking you another nooblish question because I am a PC noob. I want to know if it is safe to overclock my CPU to like 4.0 or 4.2 Ghz with the stock cooler. My CPU is the AMD fx 8150 8 core 3.6 ghz. My motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3. And if it is safeish to do so, can someone give me a noobs guide to overclocking a CPU? Thanks guys... PS Does my CPU speed affect fraps FPS? Because when i record Minecraft with fraps, it locks at 55 FPS it will not go any higher even with render distance on tiny and all the settings on fast.( I have a gtx 770 and normally play on 200-500 fps)

wow, thats a lot of bees!

Your GPU effects FPS more than your CPU, it really varies depending on what game but 90% of the time its all GPU.

You can try overclocking it but it all depends on how hot it is. If you can keep your CPU cool then you can OC to those speeds no problems. If not then I wouldn't advise it.

Any reason you're not using Shadowplay to record gameplay? With your GTX 770 shadowplay is supported & you can record at 1080p @ 60 fps with no noticeable fps loss, especially when compared to fraps. Also shadowplay uses a hardware encoder to compress the video on the fly so you end up with a lot smaller file sizes.

However yes, CPU speed can affect fraps but something even more important is having your game on one hard drive & recording videos to a second one. If you're recording large uncompressed video to the same hard drive your game is on you can have performance problems.

Considering I've overclocked my cpu on water to 100 degrees for the lols... I can't really be a judge for "safe" overclocking. As long as the temps are low you'll be okay. Don't just jump to 4.2 slowly increase the clocks just like you would any OC. Put some money to the side for a decent cooler.

+1 for Shadowplay. Still has some issues, as it's still in beta, but it's come a long way, and the quality compared to file sizes is excellent!

No I don't ive messed with all the settings and nothing works. Recording in full size 60 fps locks me at 55 fps

well, i dont think you'd want it much more then that anyway, disk space goes away really fast at high fps.

That's not because of your gpu/cpu/, fraps just puts your fps lower because the hdd cant keep up. Use Shadowplay or OBS instead that supports cuda as well.
