Sennheiser HD518 review

nixproducer

First of this is my first review, of anything, so here it goes and this review is after having the Sennheiser HD518's for a little after a week.

DISCLAIMER: I AM IN NO WAY AN AUDIOPHILE

The Sennheiser HD518's are very good headphones for the price they are and at the time that I bought them I got them only for 77.99 on Amazon and not they are 97.99 and I would pay that price for them if I had to but I got the last one in stock for that price. I will be using a scoring system out of 10 points of every category that I can think of.

1.Comfort 9/10. The Sennheiser HD518's are pretty much the most comfortable headphones that I have ever owned and I have owned many different gaming headsets and have had one other pair of headphones and those out of all of them these are my favorites I have ever owned and probably the best bang for the buck headphones out there. I came from the Razer Kraken pros which were sometimes terrible and sometimes bearable so I was really happy with my purchase of these headphone. One complaint -1 which is that on the bottom of the ear cups does not have a total complete seal which is not to bad but the earcup cushions make up for that about how soft they are and with their E.A.R technology which I take it as the ear cups are shaped like an ear which is cool.

2.Sound Quality 8/10. Since I am not that familiar with sound quality and I do not have an amp and/or dac, sill they sound really good, I mainly listen to dubstep and this may be weird but I also listen to some country music as well and listening to it on these headphones make the songs sound amazing and coming from bass heavy headphones that made everything sound muddy. The bass is really good on these but not overwhelming and the voices sound good, so overall these headphones have very sound quality even without an amp and/or dac.

3.Cord 10/10. The cord is very good and very durable. I thought that the cable was going to be longer but that is pretty much my only complaint. It was very unusual because it was a 6.3mm jack out of the box and then it came with a 3.5mm adapter, which it is most of the time the other way around. It is gold plated but I do not know if that effects anything but I do know that the jack is really durable. One thing that I did not think was a feature on the HD518's was a removable cord with a very nice locking system on it so that the cable does not fall out.

4.Durability 10/10. The durability of these headphones is really good so far since I do not have a stand I put them on a drawer knob and that works pretty good but sometimes the will get knocked of and they fall this has happened only a few times and they have held up perfectly no problem with them at all, which is a big improvement to my old Razer Carcharias where I dropped them once and then they broke. So that is why I gave the durability of these headphones so far a 10/10

5.Features 8/10. The HD518's have some really cool features but there could be more. I wish that they came with different sized and kind of cables kind of like the ATH-M50x. Yes the cable is removable but it has a proprietary cable locking system so that you can only buy their cables. That would have made them a bit more expensive but I would have paid for something like that. Also that maybe they could have came with different earpads like with different type of material, again they would have raised the price but I would have paid for that. They still have some great features and I still would recommend them to anyone

Overall 45/50. If you do not want to read the whole review these are very very good headphones for the price and I would recommend them to anybody. If you want to order them yourself here is a link to them with the LTT affiliate link.

Nice review but I need to point two things, you can buy different earpads and cables (original or from other brands) and I think that the earpads and cables are compatible for the whole 5xx series.

i know but i mainly meant different material earpads and different kinds of cables

Yeah, you can get both.

Would you be able to find a link? I've been looking for replacement earpads for my HD518s for a while with no luck.

As with most things, you can get a cheap knockoff http://www.amazon.com/Brotrade-Replacement-Compatible-Sennheiser-Headphones/dp/B00HBSNTHK/, or pay premium price for the real thing http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Replacement-Cushions-SENNHEISER-Headphones/dp/B002STGF6O/.

Considering how much the headphones cost and the fact that they're meant to be extremely comfortable, I'd go with the more expensive ones rather than risk getting an uncomfortable one, but that's just me.
