Why didnt i buy a pre built?

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games- everything and anything. Work- solidworks, NX, other CAD

Ive recently (naively) built my self a new PC and obviously i cant get a graphics card. Does any one have any advice on a model of second hand card that could tide me over untill the world goes back to normal. Im guessing the advice will be wait but im hoping not. My current build with the trash graphics card is listed below. With hindsight I should have brought a pre built 😞

Memory- 32gb ( 2x16) 3200mhz DDR4 ( i cant remember what it is and my case isnt see through)

storage-  samsung 500gb 970 EVO plus

Power supply- Corsair RM750

For some reason the amd fury (nano) cards have been forgotten and can be found for decent ish prices when one pops up. Not good prices but it is something. Other than that you have the usual suspects in the hd 7970 r9 280(x),... and so on. They go for around 120 ish and can still play current games at at worst low settings so that is nice. Could maybe try a gamble for some amd firepro cards as there is very little info about those and I've scored some decent deals the past year on those.

Look into some workstation cards. I have an AMD FirePro w7000 I picked up for 70$ (USALand money) during the GPU shortage and it games just fine for my modest needs.

I would say a rx480/480 4gb, but....

well.... you can look at sold eBay listings yourself.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

They were rare to begin with though. Currently none on US eBay. And the last few sold went for $300 or more.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I have, in my other system, a Radeon Pro WX7100, it runs very very hot, almost to the point of needing water cooling. I game on my other system with the FirePro W7000 because it stays very cool.
