Hi everyone,

I'm quite noobish when it comes to audio related stuff so I thought I would pop around to ask for some suggestions.

I am looking for new headphones since I broke the cable on my last ones (I am quite frankly horrendous with cables).

I would be using the headphones for work as well as listening to music and gaming. Some things that are important to me are the following

- Price range: max 300 euros (if it's 15 bucks more but a good match, I'll happily pay extra)

- Wireless, as I am a cable wrecker

- Portable (I would need to take it to the office)

- Multi pairing: I would like to be able to switch between my gaming computer and my work laptop if I get a call on teams for example

- The headset does not need to have a mic, I have a stand alone one for gaming and can use the built in one from the laptop for work

- I've looked at the FAQ and noise cancelling seems like something I would like as well

- I was also thinking about water resistance being an issue, but this is absolutely not a necessity

- I have normal ears so I do not need a special fit and the weight of the headset is not important to me either.

I have looked at some headsets, and this one seemed nice but I have no clue if it is actually any good: Sony WH-1000XM4 Silver

I probably forgot about a thousand things that are important when buying a headset but I guess that's why I am here, to hear from people that know stuff about it 🙂

Thanks for the help!

After some more research I have found two additional headphones which look like hey would fit my needs:

- Shure AONIC 50 (price = +-315)

- Jabra Elite 85h (price = +- 265)

- Sony WH-1000XM4 Silver (original post) (price = +-310)

So out of the three headsets, which one seems like the best/ most worth it?

The Sony's are my go-to recommendation because they fold up nicely, sound pretty good, and have great noise cancelling.

The Shure's have some pros and cons, but are a little more finnicky for just general consumer use. I'd only recommend them for someone hunting specific audiophile needs which doesn't sound like you.

No personal experience with Jabra.

I sure hope you arent planning on gaming on bluetooth with these

I ended up buying the Sony headphones after looking up some more reviews on the three headphones online.

I mostly use a different headset for gaming, however I have tested it with the Sony headphones and it seems to be working fine as well (but I game casually).

Thanks for reply! I ended up getting the Sony headphones and I must say the noise cancelling is truly amazing.

I am indeed not an audiophile, to say the least, so to me the headset does sound really nice. Would you have any suggestions on how to tune the equalizer? I have never done this before and I don't even know if I should mess with it tbh.

Sony has an app to EQ sound. The app is called 'Sony Headphones Connect'.

If it sounds good, no need to try EQ'ing. The app has EQ profiles to choose and if you want, it lets you customize your own profiles too.

I do own the Sony WF XM3, the in-ears version so I'm not sure if applies to the WH XM4 too.

DAC/AMPs:

Klipsch Heritage Headphone Amplifier

Headphones: Klipsch Heritage HP-3 Walnut, Meze 109 Pro, Beyerdynamic Amiron Home, Amiron Wireless Copper, Tygr 300R, DT880 600ohm Manufaktur, T90, Fidelio X2HR

CPU: Intel 4770, GPU: Asus RTX3080 TUF Gaming OC, Mobo: MSI Z87-G45, RAM: DDR3 16GB G.Skill, PC Case: Fractal Design R4 Black non-iglass, Monitor: BenQ GW2280

Ah yes indeed, I have downloaded the app. Thanks for the tip, I completely missed all the profiles that were already present in the app itself!

I will spend some time tinkering with the EQ to see if  I can make them sound even better 🙂
