Hi all!

Context:

I'm using a PS4 connected to projector with an HDMI cable. Problem is there is no sound output on the projector and my sound system has no optical in. Long story short: I'm using a converter that allows to convert the digital sound signal from the PS4 to an analog RCA going to the sound system. It works fine, the problem is that the converter needs to be plugged on AC to DC 5V converter which takes up a power point for and is drawing power constantly and needlessly.

What I'm trying to do:

Solder the power wires from a USB-A cable to the power pin from the AC/DC converter, so that it's powered only when the PS4 is on. I thought it was a good plan cause USB is meant to deliver 5V. And after soldering I indeed get 5V out of the power pin when connected to the USB port I intend to use.

The problem:

When I try to plug the converter to the newly soldered power cable, the power LED lights up and blinks (it normally remains on at all times) and no sound comes out. Am I missing something? Any idea on how to make it work without soldering the AC/DC converter back together? 😅

Thanks for reading 🙂

Just get a spdif to analog convertor. Like 10$ on amazon. No need to make things so complicated at all. Make sure to just get a usb powered one.

That's what he has, its just not USB powered.
