I'm having a hard time figuring out a PSU to buy. I have an EVGA 750 BQ right now but it's crapping out. The fan turns into a lawn mower sometimes and I've had to downclock my GPU 10% for the last couple years or else I get stutters. I can stop the fan noise by laying my PC on the side and punching the PSU but this only works until I start playing a game. Using i5-7600k and Rx 480 8gb.

$100 is really pushing my budget and would like to spend as little as possible but I don't want another junk either. I tried using the tier list to help but it just confuses me more and more every time I look at it. I was looking at this Corsair CX 550 or 650, or CX550F, or this Seasonic GX-550 or this GM-650. Corsair is cheaper but no idea if it's worth. Also there's all kinds of other brands and I get conflicting opinions when I google search for opinions. Some people say to avoid the seasonic unless they are made past 2019 or something like that, however I don't know how to tell if I'm looking at the right ones. Some people say avoid Seasonic no matter what. The amazon reviews on Corsair make it seem like a really bad choice.

so can someone tell me if I'm looking at the right models or if there's a specific one you recommend in my price range?

The PSU has a 5 year warranty, and it came out less than 5 years ago. RMA it.

That's not due to the PSU. You should try troubleshooting elsewhere.

Is that how you buy CPUs...? Do you just search for opinions on Intel/AMD in general, and buy their products based on that? When buying a CPU, do you worry about the 1 star reviews on Amazon? Or do you look at actual professional reviews of the product in question, and base your purchase on that? Why would you do it differently for a PSU?

:)

I can't just go without working while waiting for the PSU to travel in the mail and wait around waiting for them to send a new one. Maybe once I've acquired another PSU I can consider it.

Already did. Didn't ask for troubleshooting advice. Asked for PSU advice. Answer the question or sod off.

Dumb question. CPUs don't have anywhere near the same problem of choice overload as PSUs. In depth reviews are significantly easier to find and understand and the only major consideration is Intel vs AMD. PSUs don't have 2 major brands that can cover anyone's needs at any given time.

The point is, the reviews you see represent < 1% of the total sales.  Most people only go back to review something if it doesn't work as it should.  If a PSU works as advertised, they typically don't write a review.  If you buy a spatula and you can properly flip a pancake, do you go back to Amazon and post "five stars!  Flips pancakes!"   Probably not.  But if the handle came off, you better believe you're going back and posting "one star!  Handle fell off."

Damn, what's so confusing about it ? I'm genuinely curious.

As of the PSU choice, all these options are good for their prices so just pick one the price of which you're comfortable with.
