help me with my PSU problem!

rylree

Recently over christmas I got a prebuilt (yeah yeah i know, it wasn't the best time to build your own computer, still isn't) and I downloaded battlefront 2 (2015). During my gameplay I checked task manager to see how everything is going, and was startled to find that my CPU was at 100% usage. This isn't necessarily bad, but i noticed the same thing while playing RDR2. I asked my friend about this, and he said to upgrade my PSU (which is currently 150w, i know, yikes.) I've been saving up for a 650w bronze, since it's in my budget, and is best for a 14 year old with no job. I couldn't find anything online to answer my question, so I came here. I wanted to confirm here that hypothesis has already been proven, and that I should go through with the purchase.

If so, are there any better PSUs I could go through with, assuming mine isn't the best?

Here are my specs!

Intel Core i5-9400F 6-Core 2.9 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6G

16GB at 2666 MHz (max speed)

512GB M.2 SSD

Your CPU at 100% has nothing to do with the PSU.

What is the prebuilt model? a 150W PSU in build that uses a GTX 1660 Super doesn't sound right.

Imma guess typo with 450W? But that still doesnt sound right. But anyway, new PSU wont help at all if your CPU and GPU still boost to the maximum frequency (especially in red dead as its particularly love to hammer both GPU and CPU depending on whats going on)

It is the starter plus from NXZT! Idk where i got 150 watts, but it’s 500watts on the website. Sorry! Anyways, is there any way I could maybe lower the CPU usage or will that just continue?

Ah it was in fact a misinformation. I somehow got 150w, and on the website it’s 500w! Any way to lessen the usage so i don’t get anxious of damage? I know it’s said that it won’t kill my CPU

, but i can never be careful, especially considering it’s my first PC!

Lol, no, it is just high CPU usage in those games is what it seems like, looked at few benchmarks and it seems about there. You can try a higher resolution or tweak the game settings, you may see 70%-90% usage most of the time, but that is probably normal with your setup and those games.

Also, not related to your games. Your 500W, it should be fine if it is of good quality, but need to find the make and model to find out.
