MacBook longevity

Go to solution Solved by AMD A10-9600P,

It's hard to predict, but I would say it will handle what you need it to for 3 years at the very least. If your schoolwork will consist of just browsing the web and writing papers, then you could get away with using a 2013 or 2014 MacBook now, so in that regard I would say the M1 MacBook will last for maybe 7 more years, provided the battery can hold up. The M1 machines have better longevity than most other machines in the category, due to their insanely low power requirements, so the battery may last longer than that of an x86 machine.

So I’m looking at getting an m1 MacBook Air soon. The issue I’m having is not knowing how long it will perform. I am going to really need it for school in just over a year and then on into University (College). I was wondering how long they will last performing well. I want to do some video editing on it but would store all of the videos and sounds etc on an external storage system.

That said, if you can wait until you begin school, then there will be new MacBooks which will likely last one year more.
