Microsoft account "call us overprotective"

Hi!

I recently got a message showing up on my Microsoft account saying "call us over protective but we need to make sure you can receive a security code if you ever lose access to this account." but then i realised that the only email that it offers to send the code to isnt mine its close to my email address but spelt wrong i have tried going through the recovery options but it didn't work

any help is appreciated even though i doubt there is much i can do.

This just screams scam to me to be honest.

What kind of message was it? Was it an email? A pop up? I've never had a company start with a vague "call us overprotective, but...". They are typically succint and will simply shove "Enable 2FA now to better protect your account. Continue / Remind me later" in your face. Furthermore these are mostly, if not always, automated messages and thus Microsoft would be the last thing on Earth to misspell you details.
