Linux on ARM Chromebook

Is it possible to completely remove chrome os and install linux on an older ARM based chromebook? I know you can install it within chrome os. I prefer not to because my chrome is past end of life and does not get updates anymore.  Not sure how secure the linux would be residing within the outdated chrome is. Or does it not matter that the chrome is is not getting updates?

 

If it's not advisable to install linux within the outdated chrome is, can you wipe it and just install linux? If it were an Intel chromebook, I think it would be easy.

There's nothing inherently wrong with running linux on an ARM chromebook... all of the issues come from attempting to overwrite protected areas of storage, and a BIOS with litterally zero options. There are ways around this, provided your chromebook can be unlocked, and you have an image compatible with the specific varient of ARM yours is.
