Budget (including currency):

Country: UK

want to upgrade my NAS, at the minute it sits in my home RACK in a 1U short depth cabinet - I run freeenas which is running fine, I have no issues with it. Other than the current rig doesn't have enough CPU or RAM to support my multiple virtual machines. So I need to upgrade.

I'm looking to start with this motherboard https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B089T3SCJT/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=AUWMZRMCN1SVB&th=1 I want to run it at max speed with the highest spec components (CPU, RAM, SSDs) but I don't know what I'm buying. Any help will be much appreciated. I can upgrade the server case to either 2U-3U, all dependant on the CPU fan.

Any help with this is much appreciated.

Regards

Andy

If that was your main problems then go with m-atx or atx motherboard but ofc you need case upgrade....

Other than that maybe spend less on motherboard, I'm not saying search for the cheapest possible, so anything basic that suit your need is definitely enough

Thanks for your replies.

So my budget is about £1000.

Current Spec:-

1) Motherboard https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M3TUOW4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2) 16GB RAM

3) Integrated CPU

4) 1x Samsung870 QVO V-Nand Sata-6 SSD - 2TB (NO RAID)

5) 2x Samsung SATA 2TB (NON SSD) (RAID0 Striped)

6) 1x 64GB Samsung USB storage (Freenas boot) installed on USB3

Wrapped in a bog standard 1U server case.

I'm looking for max RAM (64GB) in small form factor board for virtualisation. With max CPU that it will take. doesn't need to be quiet as its in a cellar in a short depth network rack.

Hope this helps 😉
