Cheap DSLR

So I am on looking for a cheap DSLR to replace my phone camera as a primary shooter. So far I am looking at the Canon Rebel T3 ( http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Rebel-T3-Digital-18-55mm/dp/B004J3Y9U6 ) and the Nikon D3100 ( http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-14-2MP-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6/dp/B003ZYF3LO ). I know they are not high end or anything like that but I do not need anything that is amazing. Any help on these two compared against each other or any other camera suggestions would be great. I do not have a strict budget but I don't want to go over $500, gotta save for other things.

I'd look at the D3200 or the T3i. Both should be available within your budget, and are vastly superior to the ones you mentioned.

Ok, being $100 more, is everything about them better in general or are there some specific things about them that are a lot better?

They're pretty big leaps. The 3200 gets a better sensor. The T3 is very entry level whereas the T3i is more mid range.

There's also the D5100, which should also be in your price range.

I didn't check the price on the T3 you linked, but I hope it wasn't anywhere near the $449. It should be closer to $300.

 

If you get a decent mid range body, it will last you quite a while. Then just upgrade the glass as you advance.

It was $389 more the T3. I don't really know anything about DSLRs but doing the mid range and then upgrading the glass sounds like a better idea than going with one of the lowerend ones.
