What capacitor should I buy?

Hello, 

 

Some years ago I bought an EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 for a super cheap price but the seller did not give me any information about its function. I plugged it in but I received no power from it so I stored it for some years. A few weeks ago I realized that I could just sell it for parts since the demand for high wattage power supplies was high. Instead I changed my mind and realized that I could just fix it instead and risk taking it apart. When I took it apart I saw what seemed to be a missing SMD capacitor. I looked at some pictures of what a working one would look like and it did have that capacitor that was missing on my broken PSU. This is the only thing that I found wrong of the PSU. The only problem is which capacitor I should get to solder it back on?

Its hard to say what the value is so its hard to recommend a components however it looks like it's an C0603 Capacitor, and I would imagine that the voltage should be around 10V. As for its value again unless I had the schematics I couldn't tell you but a 100n is very common. So I would guess its a 100n 10V C0603. Hoever that is with no real knowledge of the schematics just on looks and guesses. To be safe though buy a 100nF (0.1 uF) 100V C0603 Ceramic Capacitor. they are normally the same price or cheaper than 10V anyways.

 

Don't blame me if it doesn't work this is all guess work and more from knowing whats standard for SMD

It's hard to say because those capacitor could be part of switching or filtering capacitor (otherwise they just could go tft instead of smd for bigger capacitance), so unless you have the right schematic it's basically impossible, Don't quote me on this tho but i think you're the first person asking this kind of question for high end power supply

Did you know where those capacitor is placed, if it was close to power plug it could be part of active power factor correction, if it was in the middle that could be switching capacitor, and if it was close to atx connector then it would probably be filtering capacitor

And you could make assumptions from that like active pfc could be around 90-200v

Switching would be 50-300v+

And filtering would probably be lower than 30v

More information is that whenever I switched it on the the electrolytic capacitor would charge up but would just not turn on, fan would not spin and would not give power.
