Headphone Advice!

Go to solution Solved by NannerBeans,

Okay so just what would you guys recommend then? No amp, just good headphones? If so, what model should I get. The reason I wanted an amp was to adjust my level appart from the main control on pc.

Normally I would recommend Hifiman HE400 for the $300 price range but those might need an amp. Beyerdynamic DT770/880/990 are great as well as AKG K701/702 and there are a few others I just can't think of right now.

And there is a cheap Syba amp/dac that shearme tends to like for $40 on Amazon.

Ok, so I watched this video the other day on Tek Syndicate's channel saying sound cards were pointless for pc gaming as they basically do the same thing a motherboard audio output.. I am willing to get an O2 amp but first I need a better pair of headphones. The one's he's recommending aren't available where I live (Montreal, Canada) and I would have to order them online (wich I won't because I am an impatient man and want them now.) I am looking to spend around 50$ before tax and was looking at something over-the-ear more than ON-it since I have to wear glasses when I game. For sure I have preferences in sound but around 50$, it's no time to be picky.  What would you guys recommend?

P.S. No headset as I already have a mic and am looking more towards sound quality.

Thanks in advance!

I have no consistency in my upgrades.

$50 headphones and a O2 + ODAC would a terrible mix, I wouldn't recommend getting a USB Amp/DAC until the $200 range at which point a E10 will serve you well. As for headphones I remember the PX360 going for $50 on amazon IDK if it's still available at that price anymore.

better headphones.. and there is quite a bit of difference between most onboard audio especialy in the settings you get... but realy its up to your ears to decide if you like what you hear..

a good pair of quality headphones like the others have said is where you should start... headphone amp doesnt add much unless you have good headphones to drive them

Common misconception. They can actually be worse

You're better off taking the money you'd spend on headphones + O2/ODAC and spending it on expensive headphones that don't require an amp.

Like everyone else said, spend your money on headphones instead of a dac/amp. Your headphones are the weakest link in the chain do that would be where the most noticeable difference would be.
