Seems to me like it's bad install media. Not sure why but ubuntu has issues with install images so you might need to reflash the usb drive and try to reinstall again. I usually have no issues with any other distro, but ubuntu is by far the worst about this.

yes. When I rebooted it asked me to remove the usb(and I did). But when then this error happens. Same with ubuntu and mint

 Can you please record the entire boot process from turning on the computer? 

 

Also when you are in grub can you press e and take a picture so we can see the parameters for boot?

@Ujee-- it seems that, at this point, something about the hdd is not right.  Since it had a Windows virus, the existing hdd should either be wiped and checked for bad blocks or replaced. 

 

Is this HP laptop your hardware?

 

Then, I would recommend something newbie-friendly and not so buggy as the ubuntu and ubuntu-derived mint.  Something also easy to install that detects hardware better.  Something like the PCLinuxOS MATE Edition.

 

Ways to wipe the hdd

 

Make up your mind as to what you want to do and then come back with what it is, please.
