EDIT: this is not it, this is

i think this is the one, now they want to play games so bought a 550ti brand new, fitted it and it wouldn't work, this is where i came in, i upgraded the 300 watt psu to a 550 unit, but still nothing,m the gpu works in my rig. when the gpu is powered up in his there is no monitor signal from the gpu, not even in bios, or the on-board, works just fine without the gpu, but this doesn't help him, i dont know how to help him further,

ive heard of issues like this before, if you can find out the mobo model try updating the bios and report back, ive heard of things a simple as that being the fix :)

i will try that next time i go down ther.

Download the latest nvidia drivers then try to use it.

it cant be the drivers, it would still power the screens in the bios

the fans power up just fine, i have re seated the gpu. changed the power leads from the 6 pin to a molex -6pin splitter, just in case. but nothing,

it annoys me that i cant sort it out, im gonna go ther tomorrow if i can and look into updatin the bios, if hp make one anyway!

it says there's two pcie express slot, try putting it into the second one.

this is very commonly the issue when you get no post from a working gpu.

the second slot is only a 1x, with a  closed end. not gonna fit

are you sure?it clearly says

- PCI-Express 1x * 1

- PCI-Express 16x * 2

so there should be 2* pcie express 16x,and another one thats pcie express 1x

there is deffo only 1 long slot, the link i shared is only a guess.  i cant see how they can have any mobo in these cases with 2 x16 and a 1x. the thing is so damn small

have just confirmed the model, its this one, hp says 3 pcie x1, and 1 pcie x16, i dont remember seeing more than 1 x1 slot.

i have just come across a possible cause, windows 8 secure boot, does anyone know if this is likely? im going round to try and faff in a few hours so i can try various things then
