Ryzen 5 2600x maximum speed 3.8ghz

Recently built a new pc with a Asus prime B450MA2 motherboard and 2600x with 2x8gb ddr4. The only bios settings I've changed is manually setting the RAM to 1600mhz, enabled PBO and left everything else on auto, The pc runs great, max CPU is 1.288V, temps are good under load too, however my CPU refuses to go over 3.8ghz maximum.

(Running the Ryzen power profile with lower limit changed to 5%.)

I've even set it in the Bios to 4ghz and it still remains at 3.8ghz tops. Under normal idle, surfing conditions it runs at around 2.1 - 2.2ghz.

I have tried updating the bios with the most recent one from the Asus website, however the update does not appear on updater when i select the file on my usb stick for some weird reason.

Any ideas anyone?

That is normal all core boost frequency.

You could try and raise the EDC power limit in Ryzen Master and see if it boosts better.

If not, then you must manually overclock the Cpu.

That is all.

I was under the impression (and sold the processor) as "Ryzen 5 2600X has a base speed of 3.6GHz and a maximum Boost speed of 4.2GHz" which is why I was struggling to understand it.

Nope. That 4.2ghz is a single core boost frequency advertised (XFR) speed. Not an all core under the all core load speed.

But it don't do that in single core either, it stays at 3.8ghz max even in cinebench.

Because the system is not running defaults.

Can try and update the chipset driver and install Ryzen Master, set windows to Ryzen Balanced performance mode. That may help.

The 2600X will run at 3.9GHz all core, unless it is running hot.
