KVM Switch?

BiffsPC

Howdy folks looking for some help. Recently built my first PC and like many been working remotely at home for ages now. I would like to be able to share my keyboard and mouse and the two monitors between my shiny new pc and the work supplied laptop.

1.) Is a KVM switch what i need?

2.) Will such a device degrade the signal from 3090 at all, compatible with gsync, display 1.4a etc?

3.) any drawback from something like this?

4.) better options/approaches to consider?

Thanks in advance

Yes a KVM is what you will want/need. I personally use a software KVM called Synergy to share my Mouse/Keyboard between my personal desktop and my work laptop. Then for monitors I just manually switch the input the monitors are on between them. This would be the simplest and cheapest solution as hardware KVMs can get expensive quickly.

I'm assuming that the keyboard and mouse both have to be wireless then?

KVM switches are expensive, depending on how many displays you want to connect, and whether you want usb and audio.

maybe a software kvm would be a better approach, but keep in mind that there can be latency issues with software kvm.

But if you are really interested in getting one, Id advise for one from Aten. They make pretty good kvm switches, but come with a hefty price tag.

Or you get a off brand model, there is a huge number of manufactures in the field

No. Synergy is a software KVM that shares the host's keyboard and mouse over your local network.

I use Barrier, a free fork of Synergy, to share my keyboard and mouse between two separate machines running Windows and macOS.

Cool thanks folks, I'll check that stuff out. Althought not sure synergy will work as we are not allowed to install any software on our work machines.

If you need one to support something over 60hz, it will not be cheap.
