Ryzen has good options and not-so-good options.  Apparently anything ryzen+ or earlier fall into the not-so-good category. Ryzen2 was still generally slower than intel, but priced better which made up for things.  Whether that is still true or not I do not know. Price/performance is hard one lately due to wildly jumping prices and availability.  Apparently the 5900 and 5950 are great CPUs if they can be gotten.  The problem is apparently actually getting one.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

It was added as a 0. You could always stretch the budget to a 3700x, but the 3600 isn't worth it right now as the 11400 and 11600K are much better performers

Could be an “if” as well.  The future is even more hazy than it often is.

That means 3600 or 5600 at minimum.  The ryzen plus stuff is suffering from inflation due to the quality of ryzen3.  It must be remembered that early ryzen was NOT AS GOOD AS competing intel at the time.  I personally wouldn’t pay much more than a Benjamin for a 2600 and they’ve never gotten down that far.

My thoughts on the 3600 are different than many here.  I think that while 6/12 is much more long lived than 4/8, the ps5/XboxX use 8/16, albeit a somewhat slow 8/16. While a 3600 can approximately match the speed of the new consoles I am not 100% sure that the 6/12ness of a 3600 will not come back to bite it.  I personally would be more comfortable with a 3700 for longer term gaming.  There are those that disagree.  I think it more likely that a 5600 might do it because while it is also 6/12 it is a good bit faster.  Some people went for the 2600.  It’s still a better chip to have than a 4/8 chip, and faster 4/8 chips still game.  The new games for the new consoles aren’t out yet though.  4/8 has already outlived my expectations though.

A 1070 is a 3 year old card.  That it is even being looked at says a lot about the state of GPUs atm.

Fair enough.  I was thinking of the release of the 20xx series being the end of the 10xx series. Your point is well taken though.

Nor do I. I’ll be living on my rx580 till prices come down again.  A 1070 should crush 1080p anyway.  No need for more unless you get a bigger monitor
