URGENT HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I bought a 1060 6GB from a friend (mined 6 months undervolted) for $100 awhile back. Now, new it is $580. I also have a Ryzen 5 3400G. The CPU is a huge bottleneck (cpu 100% utilatzaion, GPU 26% utilization) And I have had my eye on the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X. I plan to get a 3070 in the future but have no money at all. I also need to get more storage, as I only have 120GB SSD. So, I thought, I could sell my Ryzen 5 3400G for $250 ($30 less than new) and my 1060 6GB for $500 ($80 less than new) and that would get me $750. I could buy the Ryzen 9 3900X, then buy a 1050TI off the same friend for $100 (mined 6 months undervollted), which would give me the processor for a slightly worse GPU and an extra $150 for drive space. I am seriously concidering this, and want to do big upgrades, as I dont care about bottle necks because I have a clear upgrade path to a unbeatable system. this would give me the CPU i want as my final build. I built my PC back in October of 2020, when prices were low.

its a bit hard as far as selling those 2 components. Just because they sell for that much, doesn't mean they get bought for that much. For example: 130 dollar 1060: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ZOTAC-ZT-P10610A-10L-GeForce-GTX-3GB-1060-GDDR5-Video-Graphics-Card/202868789658?epid=20034686935&hash=item2f3bec119a%3Ag%3A53UAAOSwHwleD700&LH_BIN=1#viTabs_0

You might be able to, but likely take a while or not at all. I guess do whatever, but remember that if one component sells and another doesn't, your stuck with a non-running pc (in gpu case)

1060 and 3400G is a perfectly fine combo, no need to change it out imo, doesn't make sense to in this market.

Also, nobody will pay $500 for a 1060 or $250 for a 3400G.

I kinda need the money... do you think 1060 6gb for $450 and CPU for $200?

Yeah right now is just a really bad time for anything pc related. Plus you don't need a ryzen 9 if you aren't going to do video editing or rendering. I'd cap out at ryzen 7. And your rig seems pretty stable? I've seen people use a 1070 with that cpu and destroy.

You might be able to get $500 for the 1060, as absolutely depressing as that is, but you are absolutely screwing the person you sell it to. Though, if you willingly get screwed is it still getting screwed? You're not getting $250 for the 3400G, though. You can buy that brand new on Newegg for $259.

Ouch... Well if you are constricted by a budget, I edit on a Xeon server. I'd look into a X79 dual cpu combo if I were you. Look for some 4-6 core xeons with high base clocks. You can get dual cpu boards for super cheap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/X79-Dual-CPU-LGA2011-Motherboard-DDR3-Desktop-Computer-Mainboard/393029785671   Cpus even cheaper. ~20-50 bucks a pop. Now granted some programs won't be able to utilize both cpus, but for me using Vegas with some plugins and Solidworks, it is beautiful.  I run 2x 6 core 3.6ghz cpus

I only have 1 pc, and the only money I can use is the money that I get from selling. IDK. Its tough.

it's a harsh world out here, Don't feel too bad about it. I tried to tell my buddy that I could build him a pc for cheaper if he bought one of my 1060s but he told me that pc parts are cheaper than what I'm charging. Wait until he sees average market value...   Some people need to learn to do 5 minutes of research of suffer the consequences. I got screwed over when I started too. Bought a 2000 dollar pc from best buy that ended up being a bulldozer rig worth 600 bucks. Found out 1 month later when I started researching

ooof. I really wouldnt feel bad, but when I give it to them i might say something like "how much research did you do" or "first time building one?"

right. It's their fault for not doing research. A pc is a huge investment, sometimes as big as a car. You should treat it like it

Unless you're going back to iGPU for a few months, it seems crazy to trade in GPU's right now.... do not be fooled by your observation of "100% CPU, 26% GPU", you do not need 4x more CPU power to max out that GPU, even 50% extra will easily do it and then that GTX1060 will fly.

If you're actually hitting 100% CPU, it means you're maxing out all the cores.... but remember that you only have 4 cores right now... and there is VERY little benefit in going over 6 cores for gaming.... and essentially NONE (other than stock boost speeds) with going over 8 cores.

Why not just put in a 2700X/3700X, a mild overclock and be done with it - it'll be a huge boost to your video editing and be overkill for any gaming on a GTX 1060, let alone a 1050Ti.

A 3900X and a 1050Ti will be a badly unbalanced system....

On my 2700X, I seldom see games hitting more than 30% CPU, most  so not even maxing out 6 threads - that is why the 6 core CPU's are the most popular for gaming... and that is games like Fortnite, where it's running a steady, capped 170FPS (to match a 1440P 170Hz screen).

My workstation/gamer: Ryzen9 5900X@5Ghz, AC Freezer2 280mm AIO, ASUS TUF X570PRO, RTX3080Ti FE, 32Gb TridentZ DDR4-3600C14, M.2 1Tb WDSN850, M.2 1Tb WDSN550, 2x 8Tb WD80EFAX, Corsair HX850, LianLi O11 Air Mini + 3x NF-A14's, Gigabyte M27Q (27"/1440P/170Hz), Asus PA248 (24"/1200P/60Hz), Dell WFP2408 (24"/1200P/60Hz), G815 kbd, G502 mouse, Sony WH-H910N, ModMic Wireless.
