Questions about HOTAS and mounting options

Donut417

I play Elite Dangerous with some friends. I currently use my Nintendo Switch Pro controller to control my ship, thru the steam controller configurator thingy. I also own No Mans Sky, but the configuratior doesn't support the game with the switch controller. Lets just say moue and keyboard play on flying a ship is not fun at all. On Elite Dangerous we were talking about doing some combat ships and I figure that a Hotas might make it more fun. Any one know of a good site where I can check out reviews and potentially see what's out on the market? Also how much do I need to spend so its not utter garbage in terms of quality? Would should I look for in terms of features?

Ive seen both chair and desk mounting options. My concerns with a chair system is that a cord or two might get yanked/damaged. For desk mounting I would need something that can easily be taken off or at least loosened. So I can move them out of the way when not in use. What options are there?

For the record I have looked on a few Youtube reviews of some of the Logitech systems, but they seem to have so so reviews. One of the other issues is prices are inflated, but because Im located in the US, I dont know how much is from scalpers and how much is from the Dick Measuring contest going on between the US and China.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Haven't looked at HOTAS prices in a while.  Can't believe my set up is work 1k now.

I would focus on the HOTAS rather than the mounting option.  Not sure what you budget is.  On a desk with a usb hub has worked well for me.

As for options, i am running the Thrustmaster Warthog which is effectively unavailable at the moment.  Options from Logitech are a bit disappointing; overpriced for what you get.  I would look at Virpil and VKB.

Well the thing is my desk is full. Plus it kinda sits up a bit high for using a stick and throttle. Thats why I need to mount them.

Ive looked at Virplil and they are WAYYYYYYY out of my budget. Id say I would be willing to pay $400 for a stick and throttle. Not $400 for a stick alone. Plus I need at least some mounting solution.

I would suggest the VKB Gladiator NXT

https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gladiator-nxt

I have the Gladiator K, its predecessor. It's a fantastic joystick for the price. They're making addons for it, like a throttle and other boxes with buttons.

They do have some nice mounts that will fit although they are kind of expensive. If you like DIY, you could always make your own. That's what I did. I think I spent around 40USD.

$400 is a bit tight.  My best bet would be to go dual joystick (they make a left and right setup for space-sim) https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gladiator-nxt

As for the mount they do offer some however, they appear to be out of stock.  You could try making one: https://8020.net/

If $400 is considered tight then Ill stick with the Switch Pro Controller. Because Im not willing to pay any more than that. I dont want dual sticks, because I potentially would have bought MS Flight Simulator as well. Also DIY is not my thing, all of our tools are crammed in to our shed due to the garage fire, and seeing how all this people on unemployment refuse to go back to work, we aint getting a new garage any time soon.

Thanks for both of your time.
