Hi!

Yesterday i built my first pc, parts:
Corsair Carbide 200R window
CX500M
AMD Athlon 760K
MSI R9 270
Seagate Barracude 1TB
GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XM-HD3
A-DATA 8GB XPG V2

So it worked first time i booted:)
I installed win8.1 and all of my standard apps, including Speccy, that shows you your specs and the temperature of each component. i noticed my CPU, wich has the stock cooler on it, was around 60C! When i was installing Bioshock Infinite, it went up all the way to 85C! I didn't even play, it was just the installer. then i launched the game, and it was like 90C and i heared the cooler spinning REALLY fast, so i quit the game. i also tested CS:GO, and even then, it goes up to 85C.

While building my pc, I accidently got some pre applied thermal compound from my stock cpu cooler on my desk(Just a tiiiny bit), but still put it on. I thaught maybe this was it, so I just bought thermal paste to clean and reapply the cpu cooler, and now, it still doesn't work.

One more thing to note:
My motherboard only has 1 fan header(3pin), And i used the front fan on my 200r(i tried the back fan too, temp still was too high), so maybe its the case? but all the other components aren't hot, so i really don't know what to do right now..

I hope someone can help me with this:)

Thank you for reading<3

Bad mount, maybe? You shouldn't be getting that warm, since I'm still using my 45-watt rated heatsink on my CPU, and it wil happily dump 90 or so watts into it and the cooler doesn't even care.

Hm what do you mean with bad mounts, it doesn't move, and both metal sides are in place.

but your case fans have very little do to with your CPU running warm and you cpu fan header controls uses the temp to control the fan which in turns controls the temp,

and really, a newer mobo with only 1 fan port? Btw i looked and found 3 fan headers..

Like maybe it isn't making full contact with the CPU's IHS.

Sounds like a bad mount.

Can you lead me through absolutely every step you took when re-applying thermal paste?

aight here we go,

Removed the cpucooler, put some nailpolish remover(don't have alcohol) on it and cleaned the tp on the cooler, then on the cpu, till they both were REALLY clean, then i added tp, just like in all them "how to add tp" videos ;_;, put the cooler on(it wiggled a bit), put the 2 metal things around the black things, and switched the black thing ont he cooler to the right, then plugged in the cpu fan header

Like maybe it isn't making full contact with the CPU's IHS.

Hmm, what's IHS standing for?

It's a mATX, i could only find 1, ill check again.

Edit: i checked, in both the motherboard and the user's manual, only 1 case fan header

IHS means Integrated Heat Spreader. It's the metal "slab" on the CPU.

Hmm i see, Does this mean i put too much/little tp?

Or are you saying my cooler doesnt "touch"the cpu at all, that its too high

Put a small dab of it in the middle, mount the cooler, then take it back off. If the thermal paste gets spread out out the CPU, then you have a good mount.

nailpolish remover might be the problem as well, you should be able to find alchohol at any convenience store.

Woo!

I put a little more this time, and it dropped to 85C at max from 95C, i guess i need an aftermarket cooler,

Ill try it with alcohol tomorrow

Aight im thinking of the 212 evo, however, there is no point on buying the cooler, if the cooler wasnt the problem at all here, so my question is. Is there a way to see if the cpu has any flaws itself?

I tried 1 thing tho: I launched bioshock inf. temp was 80C. I stopped the cpu cooler fan from spinning with my hand, and the temp didnt really get higher. i hold it for like 4 seconds. Now my question here is would it normaly rise? So will your cpu temp rise, if the fan stops for 4 seconds... if yes, then its my cooler, if no, idont know xD

Also does anybody know if the 212 evo will be compatible with my mobo?

Touch the heatsink when it's at that supposed 80C. If it hurts, sorry. :P And are you sure you're not reading it in F?

Yes, do this. It should at least be uncomfortable to touch near the base of the HS if it's really running that hot. Your temp sensors could also be wrong. What software are you using to check temps? Also, are you reading the core temp or the CPU_TIN temp? Some MB's have dodgy sensors and CPU_TIN can be inaccurate.

Amd temps tend to me skewed so I wouldn't trust them much I've done some testing and it seems the way they check the temp is messed up the stock amd fans are very loud so that's not a tell tale sign either so yeah if u want to do any overclocking get a better cooler but otherwise your fine
