How to check laptop battery with multimeter

so I got this laptop recently, preowned, and they told me the battery was bad before getting it, can only hold or says 4% and turns of a few seconds after unplugging power. I took the battery out of the laptop to be safe.

My plan was to replace the battery as it doesn't cost too much price.
But I found out while taking it out, there is like 2 visual spots where there is a little bit of corrosion and inspecting further, it might of already been taken apart (heat pipe as a scratch and non important screw or 2 is missing)
Iv reset the pc since then but got a battery report just before doing so Ill put an image

How would I be able to check with a multimeter if the issue is with a battery being dead or the 'charging controller' or what ever its called to charge a battery is not working (there is no visual problems like battery being inflated, I can show pic if needed)

{to clarify, you can 'charge' up to maybe 4% and then after unplugging takes a few seconds to turn off}

Thank you :D
