Steam download speeds peak then flatline...

BunnyHunter67

As the title states my steam download speeds start off strong and climb up to my max (about 50 MB/s) then it drops down to 0 and occasionally reaches 10 or 15 MB/s. My internet speeds are about 630 Mbps down and 570 Mbps up (did a speed test before positing this). I've tried switching my download region and clearing my download cache and it hasn't helped. Thanks for any help!

Tried downloading something on my ssd instead of hdd and it downloads fine. I think this hard drive is defective, I've only had it for 2 months.

It's just that your HDD is not able to write fast enough to keep up with your download rate. The reason it can keep up at first is because if it's cache. After the cache is "full", the write speeds go down and thus you can't install as fast as you're downloading. That's also the reason your SSD is working fine. Your HDD is not defective, in fact it's as expected.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
