Confused with the current monitors available

Nick A

I'm confused with the current monitors available on the market. I've been using a Dell P2715Q 4K for the last 6 almost 7 years and decided recently that I'd like to upgrade so I started doing some research.

For starters I'm confused as why in 2021 with so much 4K content available and GPUs being so powerful that 1440p monitors are still common place. It just seems silly with 4K TVs being so cheap that 1440p monitors are still prevalent. Anyway, I decided to narrow down to only 4K options but every single 4K option has significant compromises.

It seems there are no 27"/32" monitors that check every box like a modern TV would: 4K 120hz, HDMI 2.1, full array local dimming, Dolby Vision, etc..For example the Sony X950H checks all those boxes and has fantastic image quality for $999 but the problem is the smallest size available is 49". Then there's the LG 27GN950-B on the other hand that costs $799 but has back light bleed, poor black levels, and awful black uniformity.

I can't be the only one who wants to use their monitor for a little bit of everything: FPS gaming, watching 4K HDR movies, office work, photo editing, etc..I wish a company would release a monitor as good as modern TVs for a reasonable price. One that you can watch 4K HDR blu-rays on with the same quality as a modern high-end TV, and switch it to game mode for high refresh rate, low latency gaming.

If someone has any recommendations for which monitor makes the least compromises that would be great. Thank you!

Because lots of people (like myself) don't need a 4K display, and 1440p is a great resolution for a 27" display. Also, TV =/= monitor. Sure, they're similar, but definitely not the same.

Closest to no compromises is the pg32uqx, but for whatever reason it only has hdmi 2.0 and it's $3k. Imo you're better off just getting a 55inch tv for media and big screen gaming then something like the upcoming lg 27gp950 as a monitor. You could also get the 48 inch or upcoming 42 inch oled from lg if you wanted a monitor that big, but then you gotta worry about burn in.

Thanks maybe I'll wait and see how the 27GP950 performs. The C1 OLED would be fantastic, if they made it in 32".

I'm pretty sure it's the same as the GN950 but with hdmi 2.1. So expect it to have backlight bleed
