SSD Indurance

Does SSD endurance really matter now days? from 700tb to 1200tb ? I'm looking at a Samsung 980 Pro.  Should i worry about 1,200 TBW in a main OS drive?

I don't think you'll have to worry about nothing at all, It depends on how much cache can the ssd hold or if it's accesing it by ram using SMT (I think that's what it's called: SMT), if it has a way of caching the SSD on writes, it will last longer.

 

And in this case for the 980 pro Samsung, this thing has cache already and it will last you surprisingly way longer, alot of years maybe I should say

Like anything, you need to understand your usage levels so you can make an informed decision.  How much you read/write over a given time frame and extrapolate it out.

 

Short answer is no, doesn't matter.  But it's good to know why.

No not really. Especially premium SSD like that one. You'd need to trash TBs of data daily or something.

aright.. good to know  I'm gonna get a 980pro 1tb as my main OS drive and 860 Pro as game storage.

Why PRO drives?  Do you video edit large files?

For Endurance and reliability. Price usually does not matter. I have a 850 pro in my laptop tho its only 512 gig and never had any issue.

My reply about endurance was any of the SSDs.  I have 860's and haven't had any issues.  I've used ultra cheap ones as well.

 

If you want to pay for expensive drives you aren't utilizing their benefits of... by all means do so.  There is no need to though, as regular SSDs are more than enough for 99.9999% of users.

 I do 4k video editing and use them as a scratch drive. So its not uncommon to fill them up. I got few 1tb SD card for my Sony A7III.

Yeah I also use Pro drives, they cost a bit more but to me it's worth it, I really want them to last as long as possible.

Not what I am asking, size is irrelevant since any SSD can come in 1TB size.

 

Sounds like you're set on them regardless.  Enjoy they're great drives.
