I recently noticed a squeal/squeaky sound coming from my computer. To me, it sounds like a motor or something mechanical but I could be completely wrong. I haven't cleaned my computer in 2 years, so I have a feeling it may be dust or dirt in the fans. The reason I'm posting this is my concern that it may be something mechanical, or something wrong with my computer. The sound only comes when I am doing something that is demanding of my pc, for example, when playing videogames, when I look at certain objects, the noise can become louder or softer. When exiting the game it usually goes away or dims down. I hope that may gives some insight into what the problem is, what it may be and what it's not. Any help would be appreciated 🙂

It's coil whine from your graphics card.

Nothing you can do about it, I believe.

Here's more about it:

I think you're first gut feeling is probably right. Fan Bearings hate dust and dirt, so I would start by checking each fan individually, including your PSU fan. If its the PSU fan, your only course of action to take is replace the PSU since the fan will fail soon and you will cause thermal shut downs from over temp on the PSU. The fans are not made in a way to be user serviceable or replaceable. It would be the first one I check personally.

is it constant? or can you make it happen?
e.g. under high cpu load my computer will whine, its the coils operating at high frequency, in my case

It is not constant, I can make it happen by doing certain functions in games like Minecraft. For example, zooming in, in Minecraft, makes it whine the loudest. But when minimizing Minecraft, the whine decreases. I can even hear the pitch/frequency change as I zoom in and out.

Well, this is coilwhine.

I would still recommend to clean the pc , dust and dirt aren't good long-term and also a cleaner pc is easier to diagnose.

No this probably won't get rid of the coilwhine, you'd probably have to either exchange the gpu or psu,  but it's a crapshot and not really feasible.

my CPU vrm's will whine and whistle under certain types of load, i believe it to happen when 5V is being used excessively.

if you can zero in on the cause/location, you might be able to do something about it.

for example, i removed a few 5v accessories  and noticed a reduction in whine.

but it still happens under 100% cpu load
