how to configure wired-network

Go to solution Solved by SMURG,

Yeah I don't know where you got the impression that only 1 PC could connect at a time through a switch. You could connect a 48-port switch to 1 port on that router if you wanted, and every single one of those 47 remaining ports would provide internet access. The total bandwidth would be limited to the speed of that 1 link (probably 100mbps), but they'd all have internet access.

Hey folks, I have what might be a very simple question rgarding home network configuration.

I am moving into a new place in a few weeks, and i will have the basement renovated once I move in.

I thought this would be a great opportunity to run some cables in the basement so I can have wired network in my basement.

here is a situation.

my wireless router (RT-N65U from asus) has only 4 ports. two of those ports will be connected to my nas and xbox, one will be used by my brother.

I have two desktops that I simultaneously use, and i need both of them to have connection to the internet AT THE SAME TIME, but there is only one port left in my wireless router.

someone told me that i should connect a network switch to a router and connect the two desktops to the switch, but I won't be able to simultaneously access the internet in those two pc's. all it does it connecting those two computers inside the LAN so that those two computers can communicate with each other. What if I want to connect to the WAN simultaneously in those two computers?

What can I do to have more than 4 wired connections to the internet at the same time, if it's even possible?

Thanks a lot for your help.
