Windows can do it by its self, then just download Dual Monitor. http://www.displayfusion.com/

You don't need anything. Right click your desktop background and select screen resolution. Then go down to Multiple Display and select Extend these Displays, sorted.

Windows 7 itself has an "okay" capacity to do dual screening on its own. However, if you want to have better options when dual screening I'd suggest something like what W4RL0K suggested. I don't have any experience with Windows 8 has a dual screen platform or Displayfusion.

In my case, I have 3 monitors so I use a software called "Actual Multiple Monitors". It's a very nice program that's able to make the multiple screen environment a lot less tedious and much more workable.

Let me explain, Windows 7 on its own will only simply "extend" your current desktop screen. So what happens is you wont have any taskbar on that other monitor nor will you have the ability to change the wallpaper on that monitor either. This setup tends to be fine for the general user but can get kind of cluttered if you try to use a lot of programs. To clarify, because you only have one task on the main monitor, all of your windows will group onto your main monitor and it will be become cluttered if you do a lot of multi-tasking.

Software options like Display Fusion or Actual Multiple Monitors tend to add features like being able to have two taskbars rather than just one. Allowing you to have window tabs on the other monitor that are only SPECIFIC to what is on that monitor, rather than having to guess which window is pulled up where. They also add other options like seperate wallpapers or screensavers for each monitor (if you care about that sort of thing).

I haven't dual screened since XP, but when I did I used Ultramon. It had every feature I needed. That said, multi-monitor gaming support wasn't really on my list of needs.

I'd like to re-ask original question. Is there free software which offers extended taskbar or separed taskbars in each monitor? I know display fusion doesn't give that for free and pretty sure ultramon is same. Actual Multiple Monitors have that option (using older version since they removed free support). If not, which is best funtions/priced software and do they have once in lifetime payment or annual?
