Hello All!

I feel like I'm going mad, as I am running minecraft at very sub optimal fps (30-50) with the standard texture pack and Optifine installed

I understand my PC isn't a ridiculous spec, but I'd at least think it's better than low MC frames,

Other games seem to run just fine, it's only MC that seems to be the issue, it just doesnt seem to want to use any form of GPU power at all, and I've got a friend with similar specs who is experiencing the same on a 3070

Thanks all!

System Specs

Ryzen 5 3600 (Stock Cooler)

Gigabyte RTX 2060 OC 6gb

16gb Ram @ 3600mhz

Sabrient m.2 1tb (where MC is installed)

Corsair TX550 550W PSU

Dell 144hz 1080p Monitor

Reinstall Minecraft, or try drivers, its very odd as i run Minecraft fine and better than you with an rx580 which is worse so yeah.🤷‍♂️

Also do keep in mind Minecraft runs mostly through your cpu. If you can also try this:

Getting a better cooler then overclocking your 3600x

Use badlion client

update drivers

install java - https://java.com/en/

When minecraft and java are running you can right click on java in task manager and select property from there select high priority.

Add more ram to your minecraft file, finding settings and allocating more ram.

Decrease your render distance.

Consider these settings but not required:

Graphics: Fast

Render Distance: Normal

Smooth Lighting: Off

Max Framerate: Unlimited

Smooth Lighting Level: Off

View Bobbing: Off

GUI Scale: Auto

Use VBOs: Off

Brightness: Any setting, does not affect performance

Alternate Blocks: On

Fog: Fast

Fog Start: 0.8

3D Anaglyph: Off

(Following are found under the "Quality" tab)

Mipmap Levels: 4

Mipmap Type: Nearest or Linear, did not see any difference between the two

Anisotropic Filtering: Off

Antialiasing: Off

Clear Water: On

Random Mobs: Off

Better Grass: Off

Better Snow: Off

Custom Fonts: Off

Custom Colors: Off

Swamp Colors: Off

Smooth Biomes: Off

Connected Textures: Off

Custom Sky: Off

(Following are found under the "Details" tab)

Clouds: Fast

Cloud Height: Off

Trees: Fast

Rain and Snow: Fast

Sky: On (Set to Off if you have an extremely slow computer)

Stars: On (Set to off if you have an extremely slow computer)

Sun and Moon: On (Set to off if you have an extremely slow computer)

Show Capes: On

Translucent Blocks: Fast

Held Item Tooltips: On

Dropped Items: Fast

Entity Shadows: On

(Following are found under the "Performance" tab)

Fast Math: On

Smooth World: On

Load Far: Off

Preloaded Chunks: Off

Chunk Updates: 1

Dynamic Updates: Off

Fast Render: On

Lazy Chunk Loading: On

I use to use a 3600x for awhile in my old rig and minecraft runs around 300 with optifine and badlion client.

Don't need to overclock, i have a 3600 and is fine with CPU, doesn't even run like 40% and mines stock, obviosuly with boosting of course but he wont need to overclock it would be a waste.

No problem what so ever, try the other choices. Also make sure VSync is off that is a toxic feature

not sure about that lol, should still be able to run stable fps with vsync on. check how much ram is allocated to minecraft, sometimes it gets set too low.

optifart is really hit and miss.. i'd suggest not even bothering.

past that:

- disable vsync, it's absolutely awfully implemented in minecraft.

- set render distance to 10 chunks at most, i usually play at 8 chunks.

Spoiler

render distance is an exponential hit on performance.

it's calculated as such: the chunk you're on, plus X in every direction, where X is whatever "render distance" is set at.

so essentially, it's (X*2+1)² chunks loaded.

so as follows:

- 7 chunks render distance: 225 chunks

- 8 chunks render distance: 289 chunks

- 10 chunks render distance: 441 chunks

- 16 chunks render distance: 1089 chunks

- disable clouds

- disable shadows

there's probably more that i cant immediately think of, but that should be most of it.

vsync in minecraft is fundamentally broken. you will NEVER hit 60fps with vsync enabled.

I'll give this a go later, see what happens,

The thing is, While I agree this would increase performance, I don't think the settings I have at the moment should be an issue? That being said a new cooler is actually on my todo list, and then overclocking

Vsync is always off, FPS is set to unlimited

And I have 8gb allocated through the jvm arguments

Thanks for the advice all, I'll give it all a try later on today and check back!
