As disappointed as I've been with my Spectre 13-AC013DX, It's still an okay daily driver, and it's stopped randomly getting BSODs... for the most part.

But, it has a cracked screen and I need to fix that. I bought it with a FHD screen thinking that was fine for a small laptop, but honestly it has been a pain purely because of scaling. at 1080x1920, things on the screen are still pretty small, but I can't scale it without losing a lot of fidelity. Meanwhile my girlfriend can scale her 2k 13" Spectre just fine. I think I'd like to upgrade my screen to 2K at the same time if possible. I've watched the LTT video on upgrading the Acer Laptop screen.

How would I go about finding the right part number for the screen? I doubt it's as easy as a car. Could I really just message HP and ask for the 2K screen part number?

Are there options other than OEM HP? I'd be fine losing Windows Hello, If I have to go that way. Thanks for the help.

Wouldn't suprise me if big OEMs like HP have a measure put in place to prevent you from putting anything but an OEM HP Screen. I would contact support and shut down any attempt to do it under warranty, purchase a warranty etc. Be very strict with support and tell them you are looking for this and this and you are certain you can do the procedure yourself, you just need help get the right part.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

LCD replacement is pretty easy, all you need to do is find the same size (dimension) with the same connector (ribbon cable).

The ribbon usually 40pins (LVDS) or 30 pin (edp).

Doesn't have to be the exact model from hp parts.

Go to panelook.com search for your current panel model, after that go find the same sized one with the same connector with the different resolution.

The problem is will the display chip support the new resolution?

Assuming it has the same motherboard, i guess it would.

If you can find one, next steps is just plug and play.

Thanks for the help guys. I did some soul searching (and panel searching) I think I'm going to refurbish this laptop to try and get it like new before I sell it and buy something new. I just want to make sure the next owner doesn't get a half-functional machine.
